What to wear on first date

First dates generally send females into a flurry of panic. Throwing every item in your closet onto your floor, texting their bestie selfies of several different outfits, and a ton of shoe changes. Dressing for a first date is not an easy task – I’ve been there. I’m a relatively fancy girl, and one time I decided to wear a pair of cute wedges with a skirt on a first date with a guy I met once at a wedding. It was the worst decision ever: cobble stone pathways and wedges are a severely embarrassing situation.
That being said, I learned my lesson the hard way and going forward managed to narrow down my outfits to three main points. Hopefully these tips can you help relieve some stress as you search your closet for the perfect ensemble:

1. Find out where you are going. Surprises are cute, but the wrong outfit is not. Try and find out where you are going, or at least get an idea of where you are going. If you’re going for dinner, wear a comfortable pair of heels that you can wear in all-terrain situation. Seriously. He might want to go for a little stroll after dinner and you don’t want footwear holding you back. Do your best to dress for the situation – and always take comfort into factor.

2. It sounds a little cliché, but be yourself. Dress for your personality. If you’re usually really casual – keep it that way but class it up a little. Jeans and a loose fitted tee are totally fine on a first date, all you have to do is accessorize! A nice necklace, bracelet, a cute pair of shoes and a handbag will make your casual look more polished and perfect for a date. You’ll still feel yourself but look amazing. If you like to dress up and wear heels all the time that’s okay too, but also follow your dates lead. If you know he dresses down more, try not to go all out because it can be intimidating for guys.

3. Be practical. That means paying attention to the weather and sometimes making shoe and jacket sacrifices. Sometimes those cute peep toes you’re dying to wear just won’t cut it when it’s snowing. When you pay attention to weather cues you’ll keep yourself from looking silly and impractical.

And finally, my go-to for any first date (after my wedges and cobble stone experience) you can never go wrong with the following: Dark fitted skinny jeans, a trendy black top (it won’t make you basic) a pair of comfortable heels, and a blazer just in case you get chilly. This is the go-to outfit that will never let you down: flattering, sleek, polished and suitable for most situations.
