Men’s Style Guide | How to Wear a Scarf

men's scarf

One of the best part’s of fashion in the winter is figuring out ways to stay warm….but looking good while wearing layers of clothes. We have said in our previous posts that accessorizing in the winter is the best way to be fashionable and for men, it is not just about the kind of scarf you have but how you wear it. Whether you are going to work or going to a party, there are multiple ways that you can tie your scarf. Here are some of my favourites:

drape

The Drape
Comfortable yet simple. It may look like it doesn’t keep you warm but it is the best accessory. Since it is open, people are also able to see the tie or sweater you are wearing ALONG with your scarf. It is definitely a classic businessman’s way to wear a scarf and I think it is the best way for men to show off their suits.

double knot

The Twice Round
This is meant for a super cold day and if you have a super long scarf to do this. You basically wrap your long scarf twice and leave both the short ends in the front. I don’t really see this style as much along the Toronto path but I do see people knotting their scarves this way while waiting for the GO train, so it is definitely more of a practical knot.

Fake knot

The Fake Knot
Last but not least, the fake knot is my favourite as you can tie it in a way to show off a certain pattern (maybe if you have a Burberry scarf?). This scarf does not have to be too long. Just hang the scarf around your neck with one line longer than the other. Tie a loose knot over the short end and then slip the long end straight though the knot and tighten it. Kind of like tying a tie!…sort of?

These are my three favourite ways to tie a scarf but they are not meant for everyone. Make sure that you choose a style that fits with the scarf length and thickness, and make sure it is not too tight – they are meant to be nice and loose! Finally, keep it simple! Fashion is important, but function comes first so when choosing the knots, ensure they are comfortable and bring out your confidence.

Looking for inspiration? We do have a Burberry scarf on sale at the moment; check it out at our on-line pop-up shop where it is on sale for $180.00. Any questions, let us know, Designer Swap is always here to help.
