We all have our own personal fashion tips and tricks that we swear by, some may work for others and some not so much. There’s this one in particular which I really don’t understand and that is – why can we not wear white after Labour Day?! Seriously, if this was a big “NO-NO” in the fashion world then why do they make cute boots, booties and coats in white? Argh! I’ll never know but who cares. Seeing white on the runway for fall/winter fashion trends is a good enough sign for me to not follow the unwritten rule!
So, today I have roundup my top 20 fashion tips and tricks that I had learned along the way. I know some of it may not be for you but if you don’t agree or would like to add more to list, feel free to leave a comment so I can compile one massive list here on DS for everyone!
1. To remove the vintage and old clothes odour, mix a little bit of vodka and water in a spray-bottle and spray your clothing thoroughly…while you’re at it make yourself a glass!
2. Use baby powder to remove any oil spill from a bag or clothes.
3. If you spill something DO NOT rub it off, take tissue or napkin and blot it off. If you have access to some soda water, use it diligently.
4. When your compact powder breaks and gets all over the inside of your purse, use make up remover wipes. Don’t wash it under water, it might leave water marks outside of your bag.
5. If you don’t feel like trying on pants or jeans at the store, wrap the waist around your neck. If it’s a little tight then most likely you won’t fit into it. Ensure that it’s lose enough around your neck.
6. The hem of your pants or jeans should be touching the floor, that will give you enough length to wear flats or high heels.
7. When you’re buying a jacket or blazer make sure the shoulders fit perfectly. Everything else can be tailored but the shoulders are hard to work on. Sometimes it ends up losing its shape.
8. If you’re bored from wearing the same coat over and over but you don’t want to spend the money to buy another one, sew on a new set of buttons and that coat will look brand new again.
9. If you’re too lazy to get your dress, pants or skirt hemmed and you really want to wear it that day, use a double sided tape to shorten it. But make sure to bring it to the tailor after so you can get a proper alteration done.
10. For a sexy and classy look your skirt or dress shouldn’t be shorter than the tip of your middle finger.
11. Always replace your bra every 6 months because the more you wash it the more it loses it’s shape. It’s important to keep your babies in proper shape and form.
12. Mix up your wardrobe with adding hints of masculine clothing such as a baggy dress shirt – which can be used as a dress with a skinny belt with high heels. If you find the shirt to be too short, pair it with short shorts so it covers your rear.
13. Try wearing a belt backwards with the buckle in the back giving it a different look from behind.
14. To find a perfect pair of heels that fits, you must try them on first at the store. If you can’t lift your heels off of your shoes then most likely it’s too tight. Make sure to leave a little room for your feet as it swells up through out the day.
15. If your shoes are a little too tight use a blow dryer or a heater so the leather/suede expands a little.
16. After you iron or steam your clothes don’t wear it right away as it’s still hot and can cause more wrinkles. Let it cool down and sit for at least 5-10 minutes.
17. Always carry a small bottle of clear nail polish if you’re planning to wear nylons. When you see a little hole just dab a little and it’ll prevent from running.
18. In order to maintain the dark wash look on your indigo jeans add 1/2 cup of white vinegar when washing.
19. To store sterling silver jewelries and prevent it from tarnishing, store it in a ziploc bag and seal it. You can keep it in there for months and still look brand new.
20. Do yourself a favour and invest in seamless undies. Trust me…it’ll change your outfit completely if your underwear lines are not showing.
