The Art of Pocket Squares

POCKET SQUARES

Many say that it is in the little details that make a big difference when creating your outfit in the morning especially when you are working a 9am-5pm job, you do not want to make it look like you are wearing the same suit every day. I have been working on Bay Street for awhile now and I find that men do not have a ton of options to choose from when looking for an outfit. Their biggest option is to wear black, grey or dark blue suits with a collared dress shirt. Some suits may have pinstripes though! (Even though pinstripes are out of style at the moment). To make them stand out in the busy financial sector, many wear pocket squares that have different designs and shapes to it.
Although it is considered just a piece of cloth or handkerchief, it assists in differentiating men from the thousands of people walking down the streets of the financial district and can show your skill in the attention to detail. I believe that practice makes perfect and the purpose of this blog is to get your creativity juices flowing when choosing your outfit for work and to show you different ways to fold your pocket squares.

Here are some options that I hope you take into consideration:

two point fold

Two-Point Pocket Square

1. Lay the pocket square flat and lay it down in the shape of a diamond
2. Connect the bottom and top corners of the diamond
3. Fold the left side across from the right
4. Fold the ride side across from your left
5. Tuck the pocket square into your suit pocket!

three point fold

Three-Fold Pocket Square

1. Just like the last, lay the pocket square flat and as a shape of a diamond
2. Connect the bottom and top corners of the diamond
3. Fold the left side towards the right, and up to the right of the top peak
4. Fold the right side straight across the left

Winged puff fold

Winged Puff Pocket Square

1. Again, lay the pocket square flat and as a shape of a diamond
2. Fold the top corner down to the bottom
3. Fold the left and right corners down and inwards
4. Fold the right, right and bottom corners in

Of course the simplest one is folding a pocket square in half and just putting it in your suit pocket but what is the fun and creativity in that! All of these folds I have provided you are from GQ magazine so I can PROMISE, that these little details in the folds can really show your attention to detail and your creativity!
