As August nears its end, it’s time to look forward to the greatest fashion season: fall! No one played it safe on the Fall 2013 Ready-to-Wear runways, so we’re extra excited to work the latest trends into our wardrobes this autumn. Who has time to mourn the end of summer when visions of coloured leather and extreme fathering are dancing in our heads? Here are our top 10 favourite trends of the coming season:
1: LAYERS OF GREY
Layering various shades of grey creates an air of modern sophistication.
Karen Chow’s pick for favourite fall trend: “Grey is such a versatile colour. My guess is there are probably at least 50 shades of grey! Maybe Stella McCartney is feeling the Fifty Shades Effect in her new lingerie range or Max Mara knew that a grey ensemble would strike a note with the urban, working girl. I’m ready to welcome the Fall season by donning layers of grey myself!”

2: RICH GREEN
Pantone’s 2013 colour of the year continued to fascinate designers, dominating the fall runways in a variety of rich tones. Pick a shade that flatters your complexion!

3: COLOURED LEATHER
Black leather is sexy but expected, so switch things up by trying out the fabric in a surprising hue. Camels and greys are unexpected but easy to pair with other items in your closet. Or, if you’re really good at mixing colours, try a leather jacket or skirt in something bright!
Karen Tran’s pick for favourite fall trend: “Fall is definitely one of the best seasons! Not only is it the most fashionable season of the year, but with cooler weather comes much more wardrobe versatility. Coloured leather is one of my favourite trends for this fall – leather can be sporty, rocker chic or very feminine, depending on how you style it. I especially love to pair leather with extra-girly pieces to balance out its edgy feel.”

4: LE SMOKING
Suit dressing for women has never been so sexy, with fitted suits (and short suits) made from velvet, pinstripes and wool.
Amy DelRosario’s pick for favourite fall trend: “I love anything sleek or tailored, so this look definitely has my name written all over it. A wool blazer is great for layering in the fall, and with the right accessories a fitted suit can be just as sexy as a LBD!”

5: MAJOR VOLUME
Outerwear gets a big boost this season with lush fabrics in voluminous shapes.
Caley Skinner’s pick for favourite fall trend: “I have always cherished a secret dream of bringing my snuggie with me to the movie theatre. How much more comfy would that be?! I feel like my dream has somewhat come true with the growing popularity of soft, voluminous outerwear. Is it a blanket? Is it a chic winter coat? Who knows!”

6: ALL-WHITE ENSEMBLES
White on white on white is always fresh and bright. Pick separates in different shades of white for a snow queen vibe!
Anh Pham’s pick for favourite fall trend: “I’m not ready to let go of summer yet, so I’m thrilled that wearing white from head-to-toe is a huge fall trend this year. Why spend more money for autumn-wear when you can re-use your white summer clothes? All-white looks are elegant and sophisticated, and as far as I’m concerned, more white equals even more class! I love to rock all different tones of white in one outfit, accenting my look with gold jewellery or colourful shoes.”

7: SHINY AND EMBELLISHED
Don’t be afraid to play around with fun textures and shimmery pieces during the autumn months.
Linh Pham’s pick for favourite fall trend: “As summer moves into fall, bright, flowery looks are replaced by warmer, more solid colours. I like to add a little sparkle to my fall ensembles with shiny and embellished pieces, so I’m glad that so many designers went all out with their embellishments on the Fall 2013 runways!”
